From the very beginning, we have remained committed to sustainable winegrowing. When Jean Jacques Michel selected the land and planted the first vines in 1979, he made a promise to preserve the fields for generations to come. The land where this promise was made now makes-up Michel-Schlumberger Wine Estate and the commitment to sustainability in wine country remains.
With the assistance of West Coast Solar Energy, we designed, engineered, and installed a 215-kilowatt energy generating system in 2016. We are proud to say that it is the largest solar energy generating system in Dry Creek Valley, consisting of 672 ground-mounted solar panels and three inverters. In a typical year, we can generate more electricity than we need and sell the excess back to the provider. This system covers all of our electric needs, and we will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 5,000 tons of CO2. This is the equivalent of planting over 200,000 trees.
