Here at Michel-Schlumberger we farm two separate blocks of Cabernet Franc, one block is up on Bradford Mountain and one block is down at the Winery Ranch. This is a great advantage since Cab Franc reflects growing area almost as well as our Cabernet Sauvignon. So, blending a little mountain fruit and a little benchland fruit can really bump the quality level up. In 2006 that's exactly what we did. We like to show our club members some behind the scene stuff...it builds an appreciation not only for our wines, but also for how much we enjoy wine. And yes, we enjoy this wine. It's lighter in color and tannin than our Cabernet Sauvignon, but still has clout and wine worth. It's ripe red fruits shine through in this bottle with a distinctive Cab Franc spice that can easily draw the drinker into the depths of it's complexity (in the cellar we call it a rendezvous). This wine has plenty of fruit for up-front enjoyment, but those who wait will also be rewarded with a complex wine that screams right bank of the Gironde...only it's from Dry Creek Valley.
