Sustainable Winegrowing

Sheep help with mowing
We use a special breed of miniature sheep to help us mow the permanent cover crop around our vines.

Baby face
A closer look at the vineyard-mowing sheep.

The Mobile Chicken Coop
Our chickens spend their days in the vineyard controlling bugs.   In the evening we wheel them back to safety - out of reach to the coyotes.

Bee Keeping
Jacques tends to our bees which are part of our effort to tend to the eco-system.

Fueled by fries
Our vineyard tractor runs on bio-diesel, which is made from recycled cooking oil from area restaurants. The exhaust smells a bit like French fries. (We don't usually park the tractor in the courtyard.)

Natural habitat
We've installed birdhouses and perches throughout the vineyards, helping raptors to control pests. The lake provides a natural habitat for fish and wildlife, and irrigation when needed.

The Estate
Michel-Schlumberger Wine Estate is nestled in a pocket canyon on the western hillsides and benchlands of Dry Creek Valley.
